It was one of those days that you don’t want to end. The sun had made an appearance, we were cycling through beautiful countryside and along the coast, mainly off road on empty tracks. The track meandered through birch and beech trees with views of the sea and empty beaches. This was Denmark on route 8 north along the east coast of Falster and then on to Mons.
We stopped at a tiny harbour and bought some fish from a small fishing boat that had just landed. We then caught the little ferry to Bogo and cycled along the causeway to Mon. There were ancient barrows and tumuli, the only downside, nowhere to buy an ice-cream.
We had arrived in Esbjerg to pouring rain and strong winds which set the trend for the next 10 days. It was great to have such good cycle routes all well signed and smooth. The campsites were all super clean with excellent facilities. The Danes are really helpful, stand around looking lost and someone will come and ask if they can help. The bakeries are brilliant with great breads and pastries. Denmark is very green and cycle friendly and quiet.
